Vintage Suitcases

These suitcases are vintage magic! While I wouldn’t suggest taking them along on your next trip to Cape Town, I do think that they make for handsome and useful home storage. Both are roomy with latches that close perfectly and in fact have a sweet little built-in “lock” mechanism (you simply turn the outer rim of the latch release right or left to lock and un-lock). If the latches are anything to go by, the set may be British made as the latches are engraved with the Cheney company name. Both suitcases are from the same set and are finished off in a lovely blue with white stitching. I am sure that the original interior remains (it’s like decorative adhesive paper) and while this is a little worse for wear, it would absolutely suffice if the cases were simply used for storage; and if it really bothers you, I think it could easily be replaced. The outsides of both cases carry the odd scuff to the vinyl so I expect that they have been on a couple of trips before they found us. Complete with their leather hinges, bruises and even the remnants of a sticker (top left on both cases – owner ID? Train/bus tag?) these are both simply fabulous vintage pieces! The suitcases are approximately the same size with one, the larger by volume, being slightly narrower but deeper than the other.
