"Solifleur" Art Glass Vase

These vases are so unusual and I was super thrilled to find this one, in beautiful condition. The vase was designed by Heiner Düsterhaus for the German enterprise, Walther Glas, between the late 1960s or early 1970s. An entire range of "Solifleur" vases was produced, all made from heavy set glass with a relatively "flat" form. The vase is completely smooth and clear on one side, and on the other, frosted and textured glass have been combined to create a striking effect. Given the weight of the glass, it's quite a robust piece, but it's remarkable that the piece is 50-plus years old and in great nick!
