Rosenthal Collector's Wall Plate by Hans Erni

Like the plates we recentley featured depicting some gorgeous Klimt prints, this image is part of a series produced by Rosenthal. We only found one of these sadly, but it's so lovely I couldn't leave it behind! I'm not all that familiar with the artist, Hans Erni, but as it turns out, he was a prolific and much-loved Swiss painter, muralist, and graphic designer. His portfolio includes an interesting and diverse range of images - everything from horses to abstract works! The image on the plate today is named "Encounter of Hengst and Mahre" and it's full of energy and character. It's been tricky to figure out when the original series was painted but it seems they date to the early 1990s. Hans Erni died in his hometown of Lucerne at the age of 106 in 2015.
