Riihimaen Lasi Glass Candle Holders (Pair)
Riihimaen, founded in 1910, became the largest glass manufacturer in Finland and like many of these companies, started off with manufacture of everyday glass for bottles and windows. But, by the late 1930s, they had hired some impressive Finnish artists who designed stunning pieces for manufacture, including vases and candle holders. This pair are perhaps among the more muted of their designs, but they are classic and elegant. If I'm not mistaken, the company manufactured candles in the exact shape of the well, but of course one can use regular candles too without a hitch. The space at the very base for a candle is approximately 1.8cm in diameter. Sadly, the Rihimaen Lasi company closed its doors in 1990, but on the upside, we have these gems in circulation to use and enjoy.
