Retro Standing Ashtray

These ashtrays are truly a sight for sore eyes - made from wood and brass, with super heavy set bases that are finished off in non-slip rubber, they're rather glamorous in the ashtray stakes and more like pieces of furniture than ashtrays! The centre piece at the top has a clever spring mounted mechanism to release the ash and cigarette debris into the receptacle just below, for when you're done smoking. In this case, the mechanism was broken when we purchased the ashtray but we've repaired it, refreshed the middle wood portion and shined up the brass. This type of standing ashtray, or similar, has been around for ages - I'm not sure of the exact vintage, and suspect that this beauty is a South African classic.
