Large Royal Doulton "Envoy" Platter

I was quite surprised to find this platter is a piece of vintage Royal Doulton because the pattern is quite modern - or it looked so to my eye. As it turns out, the backstamp suggests the piece dates to the late 1930s which is truly remarkable because it's in excellent condition, and minus crazing to boot. On the vintage, the print does have an art-deco feel to it, but all in, it's a muted piece for the deco period - beautiful as it is. The platter is one of the bigger ones I've seen and great for entertaining. I'd say one is less likely to use it for a regular night in, unless you have a whole troupe of mouths to feed! Some research on Google suggests, unsurprisingly, that the print was super popular and with slightly smaller platter replacements going for $299, I think this one is a gem!
