"Jasba Keramik" Crackle Glaze Vase

"Jasba Keramik" Crackle Glaze Vase

This is perhaps one of the most beautiful west-German pottery designs I’ve seen, although it’s relatively muted, as the better known styles of hot lava and 60s retro go! The crackle glaze range, named "Cortina", is pretty spectacular nonetheless - the thick white crackled glaze has been underlayed by smooth black, creating a very striking, textured effect - after the Japanese technique called "Raku". I love the form of the vase too, and considering that these date to the 1950s and '60s, it's remarkable that the vase is in mint condition. Jasba Keramik are of course one of the most well-known West German art pottery houses, and one can spend hours online swooning over their pieces. Thankfully gems like this have remained in circulation for us to love and appreciate! The base imprint is tricky to decipher on this one, but as far as I can figure, it includes 582/12.
