Italian Ceramic Espresso Cups (Set of 4)
It's absolute beauty and splendour aside, the Amalfi Coast is also known for the tradition of ceramic manufacture - all thanks to the geography and soil in the region. Luckily, this gorgeous, bright orange set still carries the maker's stamp on some of the pieces and so I'm pretty sure of the origin (magnificent Salerno), and with the sticker intact, it suggests that they have been little or not used at all, which is remarkable to me because if they were mine, this lot would be filled with coffee daily. Some of the stickers carry the "Ernestine" name, presumably of Ernestine Cannon - the famous American ceramicist who based her business in Salerno. As far as I know this talented ceramicist signed all her rather distinctive pieces, so my bet is that the naming of these, or the manufacturer, are a nod to her talent and her role in putting Salerno ceramics on the map. Along with the gorgeous sugar bowl, this lot is a sight for sore eyes! The cups and saucers are in great condition.
Dimensions
Cups are 6.5cm tall x 5.5cm diameter; saucers are 13cm diameter.
