Govancroft Pottery Jar
My guess is that at one point in time, these Govancroft Pottery jars were corked - but like most (if not all!) I've come across this one is sans cork. That aside, I'm pleased to report that it's in mint condition. The Scottish Govancroft company largely manufactured utilitarian pottery - which makes sense looking at this piece. It's a solid, chunky and robust piece of stoneware - no bells and whistles! But, it does make for a cool piece of understated vintage decor and in particular, I think these make fabulous vases for a bunch of blooms. If I didn't have so many spatulas and wooden spoons, I think it'd work equally well on my kitchen counter-top as a hip utensil holder!
