Green Hazel Atlas Diamond Arches Bowl (R220)
I find this petite Hazel Atlas bowl remarkable – not only does it date to the 1930s and has survived, without a chip or major damage to the glass no less; but also it’s made from uranium glass which is green owing to the presence of uranium. Sadly I don’t own a UV light, but when shone on one of these bowls, they fluoresce a fantabulous green (see images here *). Of course, uranium glass is no longer used for kitchenware but only for decorative glass items and so these pieces are highly prized. If the colour wasn’t glam enough, the glass has been beautifully cut and finished off with a ruffled edge, the only blemish being a small scratch on the inside of the bowl (see images).
