Wedgwood Asiatic Pheasants Platter (R220)
The popular 'Asiatic Pheasants' is in fact a Burleigh Pottery design, originally dating to 1862! In the early days, the pheasants were one of the most popular designs of their time and were replicated by a number of different pottery houses. Given the devoted following and clear love of this image, it’s hardly surprising that the Burleigh company continues to manufacture their Pheasants today. The platter we have here was produced by Enoch Wedgwood (Tunstall) Ltd. and some back stamp research indicates that it was made between 1965 and 1980. While the design is absolutely inspired by the Orient, it certainly represents British design too with ample florals and in the shape of the platter. The Wedgwood version is really lovely as the image is printed in a bold and bright blue. All in, the platter decidedly striking and so pretty – and certainly not a server one sees often at all!
