Henselite Carpet Bowls
This super vintage set of Junior Carpet Bowls were manufactured by the Australian company, Henselite - an outfit that has been on the go since the 1930s! The set come in their original box which as you can see, is somewhat worse for wear and has been bandaged with a fair amount of sellotape. Nonetheless, it's still strong enough to hold the complete set of 8 bowls and jack which are in great condition. The rules unfortunately are missing - perhaps not surprising given that the set is more than 50 years old (with first production of Junior carpet bowls starting the early 1950s), but they can be found online - here's one link. I also thoroughly enjoyed the article on Junior bowls on the Henselite web site (here's the link) which kicks off as follows: "All that is old is now new, at least to Gen Y who are taking to the greens to take on the jack! Barefoot in the park is rapidly becoming barefoot on the green….lawn bowls is shedding its crusty, conservative, starchy image, especially among the young." My personal favourite experience of bowls was at a 30th birthday party where we received formal instruction - the game isn't as easy as it looks, and we sure did have loads of fun and a good laugh!
