Bear Cookie Jar

This cute little bear hails from Italy (1950s) but arrived in South Africa via Australia where I picked him up at a charity market. These bears are made of thick heavy glass – which is probably why he has survived all these years and looks as good as new – not to mention, Mr. Bear has outlived his original clamp lid which has been replaced by a cork stopper. Even his current cork stopper seems to be a little aged and is definitely starting to lose some elasticity so will likely need replacing in coming years. If he were mine to keep, Mr. Bear would live in my kitchen and be filled with home-made rusks, and if he were my toddler’s to keep, he’d live in her bedroom and be filled with chocolate.
