Art-Deco Libochovice Glass Candle Holders (Pair)

Art-Deco Libochovice Glass Candle Holders (Pair)

The Libochovice Glassworks was founded in 1912, and they hosted a number of brilliant and well-known glass designers (the likes of Rudolf Jurnikl) before they were absorbed into the Sklo Union Group. The company was named for its home town, Libochovice, north-west of Prague and equally famous for a great big Baroque castle. While their production lines were largely aimed at container glass, they did small-scale manufacture of excellent decorative glass - our pair of candlesticks are a fine example dating to the art-deco period. The company exported many of their wares and as this pair carry a British registration number (796007), they were likely purchased in the UK. It's always amazing to me when such beautiful pieces survive the test of time - given the excellent state of these, it is remarkable that they are in the region of 90 odd years old! They were clearly much loved and with a fabulously unusual shape, attention to detail and handy size, it's easy to see why!

  • Dimensions
