African Lady Stone Book End

I’m always impressed with stone carvings – it must take some serious skill to create the image of a person out of a piece of earth! I’m not certain what our lovely lady is carved from – the stone is veined brown and black, and when giving the carving a clean, red pigment leached from the stone – so, if that’s a clue for anyone we’d love to know. Our book end came without a partner, but I think she holds her own as a solo piece of functional art.
